FloofCam FAQ
FloofCam FAQ: Turn Any Device Into a Pet Camera
Answers about setup, supported devices, live streaming, two-way audio, and troubleshooting your pet camera.
Getting started
What is FloofCam?
FloofCam is a browser-based pet camera that lets you use a phone, tablet, or laptop as the camera device. Open FloofCam on one device to monitor your pet, then open it on another device to watch live. There are no app downloads or extra camera hardware required.
What devices work with FloofCam?
FloofCam works with most modern phones, tablets, and laptops that have a browser, camera, microphone, and internet connection. You can use an old phone, an iPad, a tablet, or a laptop as the monitor device. For setup ideas, see turning an old phone into a pet camera, using an iPad as a pet monitor, and using an old laptop as a pet monitor.
Do I need to install an app?
No. FloofCam runs in your browser, so you do not need to install an iOS, Android, Mac, or Windows app. Open FloofCam, choose which device will act as the camera, and watch from another device.
Do I need to buy a separate camera?
No. FloofCam is designed for devices you already own. If you have a spare phone, tablet, or laptop with a camera, you can use it as your pet camera.
How long does setup take?
Setup is designed to be quick. Open FloofCam on the device you want to use as the camera, then open FloofCam from another device to watch. Most of the setup time is just positioning the camera device where it can see your pet.
Using FloofCam
How do I watch from another device?
Start a camera session on the device pointed at your pet. Then open FloofCam on the device you want to watch from and join the viewer session. This lets one device act as the camera and another act as the viewer.
Can I check in when I’m away from home?
Yes. Once the camera device is running and connected, you can open FloofCam from another device and watch your pet live from anywhere with internet access. Keep the camera device powered, awake, and connected to Wi-Fi for the best experience, and use the keep-device-awake guide if your stream keeps stopping.
Does FloofCam work outside my home Wi-Fi?
Yes. FloofCam is built for remote viewing, so your viewer device does not need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the camera device. Stream quality can still depend on the internet connection available to both devices, and it helps to keep the camera device awake during longer sessions.
Can I talk to my pet?
Yes. FloofCam includes push-to-talk two-way audio on Free and Premium. Press and hold from the viewer device, and your voice plays through the camera device so your pet can hear you. You can read more on the features page.
Ready to try it?
Start with one device as your camera and another to watch. It takes less than a minute.
Features
What features are included for free?
Free includes one camera, one viewer, live video, and push-to-talk two-way audio. It is meant to let you start monitoring with one simple setup before deciding whether you need more coverage. See all features on the features page.
What is push-to-talk?
Push-to-talk lets you speak through the camera device only while you press and hold the talk control. This keeps the behavior intentional and avoids leaving an open microphone running. Push-to-talk is included on both Free and Premium.
How do noise alerts work?
Noise alerts are a Premium feature that can notify you when FloofCam detects sounds like barking, meowing, whining, or loud thumps from the monitor device. Alerts are meant to help you check in sooner, not to act as a safety or security system. For the full Premium feature set, see FloofCam features.
What is photo capture on noise?
Photo capture on noise is an optional Premium setting that can save a photo when a noise alert is triggered. This can give you quick visual context for what happened, such as whether your pet was near the door, moving around, or reacting to something nearby.
What does the activity timeline show?
The activity timeline is a Premium feature that can show monitor events, viewer check-ins, push-to-talk activity, noise alerts, and photo-related events. It is designed to provide helpful context while you are away, not to serve as a guaranteed safety or security record. See the features page for the broader breakdown.
Plans and limits
Is FloofCam free?
Yes. FloofCam has a free plan that includes one camera, one viewer, live video, and push-to-talk. You can upgrade when you need more devices, multiple viewers, alerts, history, or higher-quality monitoring.
What does Premium include?
Premium includes unlimited devices, watching from multiple devices at the same time, HD video, noise alerts with optional photo capture, activity history, and better support for larger multi-device setups. View pricing on the pricing section and see the full breakdown on the features page.
How many devices can I use?
Free is designed for one camera and one viewer. Premium includes unlimited devices, which is useful if you want to use multiple rooms, multiple camera devices, or several viewer devices.
Can multiple people watch at the same time?
Free supports one viewer at a time. Premium supports multiple viewers at the same time, which is useful for families, roommates, or anyone who wants to check in from more than one device.
Privacy and reliability
Is FloofCam private?
FloofCam is designed to be private by default and focused on your own monitoring sessions. Use strong account credentials and only share access with people you trust. For details, read the Privacy Policy.
Does FloofCam record video?
FloofCam is primarily built for live viewing. Premium features may store activity history or optional photo capture when enabled, but FloofCam should not be treated as a continuous recording or security camera system. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Is FloofCam a security camera?
No. FloofCam is a pet monitoring tool, not a safety, emergency, or security system. Alerts, photos, and activity history are helpful context, but they should not be relied on as critical records or emergency notifications.
What affects stream quality?
Stream quality depends on the camera device, viewer device, browser support, network stability, lighting, and whether the monitor device stays awake. If the camera device sleeps or loses connection, the stream may stop, so it helps to keep the device awake while streaming.
Troubleshooting
Why did my pet camera stream stop?
The most common reason is that the camera device went to sleep, locked, lost connection, or had browser camera access paused. Keep the device plugged in, increase sleep or Auto-Lock timers, and turn off battery saver modes while monitoring. See the keep-device-awake guide for detailed steps.
Why is my video laggy?
Lag is usually caused by network conditions, weak Wi-Fi, low device performance, or heavy browser/device load. Try moving the camera device closer to Wi-Fi, closing other apps, lowering device heat, and keeping the device plugged in.
Why can’t I hear audio?
Check that the camera device has microphone permission, the viewer device volume is up, and the browser tab is not muted. Some devices or browsers may restrict audio until you interact with the page.
Why am I not receiving noise alerts?
Noise alerts require Premium and must be enabled for the monitor device. Also check browser notification permissions, device volume or noise threshold settings, and whether the monitor device is awake and connected. The features page explains where noise alerts fit in the Premium setup.
Why does my phone stop streaming when the screen turns off?
Many phones pause camera or browser activity when the screen locks. Increase Auto-Lock or screen timeout settings, turn off Low Power Mode or Battery Saver, and keep the device plugged in while monitoring. Follow the keep-device-awake guide for exact steps.
